In this class we will be exploring the idea of using fruits and vegetables seasonally with blooms to create an unusual, and whimsical arrangement. With summer upon us it is the perfect time to use some of those garden clippings or any of the beautifully abundant fruits and vegetables avaliable at our many farmer's markets. Our Instructor will broaden your minds and challenge what we consider to be a "flower arrangement" in this class. Come prepared to Ooohh and Ahhh, and maybe even a "Huh? Wow, I never would have thought of that"! Our Introductory and Intermediate classes are recommended but not necessary to attend this class.
This course includes the ‘basics’ and beyond about fresh flowers, including care and design fundamentals. Class includes an in-depth lecture, demonstrations as well as a ‘make and take’ session to practice your new skills. In this class you will learn from our design professionals: fun flower history, how to correctly care for common flowers, unlock the mystery of arranging a dozen roses via demonstration, and create a basic European style handtied bouquet to take home and enjoy. These basic skills will give students the fundamental know-how to arrange their own loose flowers at home with confidence. This class is perfect for beginners or those who may want a refresher on the basics. This class is a requirement for many of our future more advanced study courses. Take the in-depth basic knowledge gained in our introductory Fresh Flower Arranging class to explore various other intermediate floral design styles and techniques. These intermediate design styles are typically referred to as ‘traditional’ styles. Gain a better understanding about what it truly means to be ‘English Garden Style’, and trends in Europe vs. the Americas. In our hands-on portion of the class we will explore the basics to create an elegant round table centerpiece using your new techniques.
Take the knowlegdge gained in both our Beginner and Intermediate classes to broaden your floral skill set and learn more advanced techniques. This class will explore the world of tropical flowers and other complementing flowers to create a more exotic or contemporary arrangement. We will discuss the special care and handeling for tropical flowers and fun ways you can create a sculptural piece with these blooms. Various contemporary floral design trends and styles will be covered. Our Beginner and Intermediate Floral design classes are highly recommended for this couse however not required.
Succulents are tremendously trendy – and a smart garden and home choice for Southern California with our arid, low humidity sunny climate. Succulents are relatively low maintenance and have a unique versatility for both indoors and out. Students will have an in-depth lecture on succulents, their care and basic identification, companion plants and soil composition. We will show how succulents can be used in diverse settings. Students will have the opportunity to make a succulent garden or terrarium to take home with expert guidance by our design and plant experts. Though a container will be provided, students are encouraged to bring their own should they have a special garden they hope to make. All succulents for terrariums and gardens will be provided.
