Fresh Flower Arranging Basics – Intermediate Level

Course Outline

Lecture Topics:

• Florals – Review - Trends through time
• Techniques – stem wrap (incorporating succulents)
• Intermediate Traditional Styles – Botanical/Vegetative/Parallel Garden style, Flemish vs. English garden style, topiary, centerpieces and Pavé.

Demo:

• Floral foam arrangement Construction - lining containers, securing in container (floral tape, wire, picks chicken wire), stem depth, foam types. 
• The instructor will choose one of the styles discussed above for an upfront close view of technique.

Hands-On Project –Centerpiece:

• Students to pre-foam their containers for their centerpiece project.
• During this portion of the class students will have hands-on instruction to create their own "make and take" centerpiece. Note: Should the elements chosen by the instructor not be to your color or decor style - additional flowers or container substitution will be available at an additional charge. (See below for day-of discounts)  

Wrap-up:

• Critique of each student's centerpiece with instructor thoughts for taking it to the next level (if desired)
• How to use more unusual flowers/greens, seasonal selections and the beauty of cutting from the garden/yard for texture

Materials Provided:

Apron, Gloves, Basic tools, Flowers, Foam, Container, Supplies. We will have extra Florist shears/pruners, wire cutters, Ribbon Shears for purchase. A recap sheet with intro info and links for further study will be provided at the end of class.
